PetroOXY RAPID OXIDATION STABILITY TESTER APPROVED FOR ASTM D7525 TESTING OF GASOLINE, ASTM D7545 DIESEL AND BIODESIEL FUELS

Release Date: Friday, October 09, 2009
BROKEN ARROW, OK— The PetroOXY Rapid Oxidation Stability tester from Petrotest Instruments has been approved for ASTM D7525-Standard Test Method for Oxidation Stability of Spark Ignition Fuel—Rapid Small Scale Oxidation Test (RSSOT).
The compact PetroOXY tester was specifically developed to replace traditional stability test methods (ASTM D525-ISO 7536 for gasoline and ASTM D2274 and EN 14 112 for diesel fuels), which were far too time consuming and labor intensive to be used for spot checking product quality or process control and monitoring.
In addition, the PetroOXY tester offers excellent repeatability and reproducibility of results along with simple handling procedures, small sample sizes, improved user safety, automatic operation, and simple cleaning procedures, making it ideal for fast and simple stability spot checks as well as routine monitoring of products.
The compact PetroOxy tester features a small hermetically sealed test chamber in which a 5 ml sample is combined with oxygen at a pressure of 700 kPa (approx. 7 bar) and heated to a temperature of 140°C. These test conditions initiate a very fast artificial aging process, which is measured by a pressure drop within the chamber. The time needed to achieve a fixed pressure drop is directly related to the oxidation stability of the sample. Test times can be reduced by elevating the test temperature.
The PetroOXY Oxidation Stability Tester is available in North America from AMETEK Petrolab, a unit of AMETEK Process & Analytical Instruments, a division of AMETEK, Inc. (NYSE:AME) a leading global manufacturer of electromechanical devices with 2008 sales of more than $2.5 billion.
